Technology

Use of all Mac and Windows operating systems, their networking, maintenance and automated archival schemes. Confident and well practised using Photoshop, Flash (no Dreamweaver though, I take my code neat), TextMate, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat Pro, Abelton Live, Keynote, Word and Excel.

Well versed in hand-coding W3C compliant XHTML and CSS, combining it with PHP and MySQL; written many registration, ordering, data-capture and content management systems from the ground up, or integrating with existing publishing platforms like WordPress and Java based systems. Integration of this into front ends variously in HTML, Flash or a combination. Have been using ActionScript since Flash 4.

Configuration of Apache, PHP and MySQL running remotely or locally on Linux or Mac OS X.

I founded Idea Junction in March 2008 with Dan Slatter. Our clients include EMI, Warner Music, Virgin, The Beatles, National Geographic and Amnesty International.

We produce websites, blogs, microsites, email campaigns, bespoke ordering systems with credit card handling, data procurement systems, SMS marketing and revenue streams. The company also writes, records and produces original music for film (The Deaths of Ian Stone), TV (Channel 4) and corporate presentations.

Job description

Website design, development, management and strategy. Graphic design for print. Award design and management of the various production processes. Live event and studio photography. Very occasional babysitting!

Major projects and clients

Worked on the print design and official photography of the BRIT Awards and Classical BRITs since 2000 and have developed and maintained the websites brits.co.uk and classicalbrits.co.uk alongside smaller sites including sponsorship guidelines and extensive digital-media distribution pages.

Production of IFPI Awards and work on the biannual Platinum Europe show in Brussels. Official photography at the MOBO Awards. Work on the corporate identity of PPL including production of their annual report and many campaigns’ advertising.

Design skills

Appreciation of simplicity and clarity when delivering a message. Practised at producing artwork for various interesting printing techniques including the use of spot inks, foil blocks and embossing. Active interest in typography. Pedantic over the correct use of typographic quotes, apostrophes and hyphenation and often the one to notice incorrect spelling or use of grammar.
